Double page spread layout ideas

Idea 1|)

This is one possible idea for my double page spread, the orange boxes will be filled with text, i think this layout is easy to read and eye catching. the green photo boxes are rapped around the text, this gives it a more formal and eye catching look. ive decided not to use this layout as there is too much room for text and isnt eye catching enough.

Idea 2)

There is two large green boxes that will have photographs relating to the story on the double page spread, it enables the text to connect with the photos. the text is in three easy to read coloms and on the left side there will be a block of text underneath the main photo. i have decided not to use this layout as the photo boxes are too small and would cause the images to look squashed.

Idea 3)

I like this layout as there is a whole page taken up by a image, this will look good and effective to the reader as it has another full color image relating to the text. The large rectangle shaped text box on top on the three coloms is a space for a large bold title that has matching colors to keep with the house style. this will make the pages stand out more.

Idea 4)

i have chosen to use this layout for my final double page spread. i think this is the most effective layout as there is most of a page taken up by a photo with a small strip of text at the bottom that will contain a quote from the interview with the featured singer. there are three large text colloms that will contain the text from the interview, and at the top of that is a large box that will contain a large title box with bold colour co ordinated text.

Creating the front cover

this is the first stage of the front cover, this shows where the main title will be and the size of it, and the additional text at the bottom of the front cover and the general layout of the cover. The dark grey space is where my image will be insterted.

Layout of the font page

Layout 1

This is one possible layout of the front cover i feel this layout works as its a classic magazine layout. the big title at the top with the strips on the bottom and on the size, with a pug with additional infomration in it, this is a clear consise layout that is easy to read and register what is in the magazine. The large green box on the far left will have lists of other bands featured in the magazine and will help perswade the potential customer to buy the magazine. The strip along the bottom will have large text with information about the main doubble page spread.

Layout 2

This is another possible layout for my front cover, theres lots of large boxes and room for additional information about other features and artists featured in the magazine. The green boxes will have no background to them so it doesnt cover up a large part of the photo. This layout would be good for a magazine with lots of features that need to be mentioned on the front cover. the large pug will have quotes from the interview featured in the double page spread.

Layout 3

This is another idea for a possible layout. The large text box at the bottom of the page will have lists of other bands in it that will perswade the potential reader to buy it as it will show other features of the magazine if your not a fan of the main feature. i kept the pug in as i think its a good way of showing extra information away from the main text box. i also kept the title in the same page as i think most people would want expect to see the logo there.

Layout 4

This is another idea for a possible front cover layout, the two green text boxes would have no backgorund to them and the fonts and colours would merge in with the background image. i think this is a good way of boldy showing additional information about whats inside the magazine. There is a small strip along the top of the page that could show a quote from the featured interview or a special offer that will perswade the potential customer to buy the magazine even more.

Well done- the notes on your choices show some informed decisions. Now look at layout, colour schemes and start planning the images.

Audience feedback

I asked my class what they prefered out of my logo and my tag line. They said they liked all of them but they thought i should tone down the colours in the logo and make them more pastily soft colour rather than a bright neon colour as its abit over powering and looks tacky. im going to take this into concideration and tone it down, im still going to keep the orange and pink but im going to reduce the glow. When i asked the class about the tag line they prefered the light orange colour as they said it represented orange juice and that is often asociated to be fresh. After taking this into acount came up with this logo instead.

Tag Line

Idea 1)

i wanted to keep the bright pink and orange colour scheme in the Tag lineaswell to create a house style for the overall magazine, the shaddow gives the title some depth and the font if much smaller and diffrent to the main title, But i felt it was too much and merged with the main title too much and decided a completely diffrent colour would be more suited.

Idea 2)

As the pink was too much colour and looked too similar to the main title i decided to focus on the orange, the colour would stand out against the pink blur of the title and is in keeping with the colour scheme. The font is rounded and smooth giving it a pop casual look. without the shaddow the font looks more flat and cartoon like. I decided against using this as the font looks childish and the colour doesnt work well with the main title.

Idea 3)

As i thought the other ideas didnt stand out enough agaisnt the bold glow of the main title i decided to give the sub title its own glow so it can stand on its own and isnt overtaken by the main title, i used the soft curved font with a thick bright pink glow. This was a good idea until i put it next to the main title and the two titles together were to overpowering.

idea 4)

Using the same colour scheme as the main title didnt work and they looked too similar so i thought back to when i was thinking of the main colour scheme and bight green came up alot as 'fresh' is often asociated with bright cool greens. Making the colour completely diffrent to the main title worked better as the subtitle wasnt drowned out by the main title and it made it clearer to read. I kept the curved font as i thought it had a easy to read fun look to it. I have chosen this as the subtitle for the final magazine.

With the subtitle and the main title together this is how it will look on the front page of my finished magazine.

Logo Ideas

Idea 1)
i first thought the idea of having a plain black logo would look smart and appeal to both male and female and all age groups, but my idea for the word 'fresh' is that its bright and new and exciting and this logo does not reflect this so i decided against using this.

Idea 2)
I then asked a few people what colours come to mind when i say the word fresh, most of them said green, i had a go with some 3d affects to try and make the logo look more exciting, but it just made the bright green look slimey and it didnt looks 'Fresh' so i decided green wasnt the right colour.

Idea 3)
I liked the 3d affect the idea 2 had so i decided to use the same affect but brighten the edges up and give it a glow and try to inhance the brightness and lighten the logo up abit. But having the 3d affect darkend the colour again and didnt look bright and exciting like i wanted it to, i dont like this logo at all so i wont use it.

Idea 4)

Taking all previous attempts into concideration i decided that pink and orange are both very bright fresh and vibrant colours that would go well with the name and they look good together. I decided to keep the glow on the font as it really makes the orange stand out. I didnt like the tint the 3d affect gave the logo so i got rid of that and i was left with a block orange font. i have decided to use this for my final magazine cover as it fits in to everything i want.

Product Placement

My magazine will appeal to the audience that are interested in the Back stage tour gossip and the new up and coming mainstream music artists. I feel there is not a market for this type of magazine as there is either a music based magazine or a gossip, personal lifes of the artists based magazine and i think this will appeal to many as theres nothing like this out there at this time. It will cover mainstream and popular artists and bands along with their personal lives and relevent gossip.

I aim to sell my magazine in most supermarkets and newsagents and other music orientated shops just as HMV. The magazine will be between the celebrity culture magazines and the music magazines as it contains both and is a mixture of the both styles. I want it to draw the attention of music magazine fans that also like to know about the bands social life and inside gossip about them. The price the magazine will be sold for will be £2.10 belive this price is perfect and a good balance as the price is very compettetive next to the other music magazine and the price is reasonable for those who are used to buying tabloid magazines. The paper quality wont be super glossy and expensive, just regular good printing colour paper that will still draw the attention of the reader. Ive chosen to do this as i want the front cover to be shiny and glossy to really stand out on the shelfs. The magazine will be a monthly issue and will also be a very compettetive price for the other monthly magazine issues avalible.

im going to call my magazine 'FRESH' i think this is a good name as fresh is asosiated with, new interesting exciting, first for gossip information. Fresh is a new and exciting name and will draw potential customers attention to the bright colours of the front cover. The magazine will be avalible to subscribe to on a monthly basis, and will be sent to the customers house via the post. This is good for sales as there is a regular influx of readers and profit coming in. subscribing also means that the magazine will be perchased no matter what each month. The magazine will also be avalible for download online, as downloading tabloid papers and other articles is becoming more and more popular as people with busy lifestyles can acsess the magzine on there portable devices, it can be perchased without even leaving there house.

What i have learnt

  • i have learnt that most people i asked were more interested the gossip about the musicians private lifes rather than the actual music. So i will cover this the most along with there up and coming new music.
  • Big bright photos of the artists are important and one of the main reasons people by the magazine is for the recent photos of the artists, so i will ensure that i have lots of large good photographs to go along side the articles.
  • The music magazine industry appeals most to the 14-17 age group, so i will write in a way that, the 14-17 age group would most be able to relate to and enjoy.
  • Most people would prefer to buy a music magazine monthly, so i will sell my magazine as monthly issue aswell as if i do this the sales are more likely to be higher.
  • I learnt that most customers in the 14-17 age group would prefer to pay £2.50-£3.00 for a monthly music magazine so i decided to sell my magazine at £2.10, as i belive this is a very compettetive price and would appeal to the targeted age group as its far cheaper than other monthly music magazines.

Mrs D

There is some good analysis here Drew. You link key details to the purpose of the front cover and explore stylistic features effectively. To improve, explore the use of langauge and cover lines in terms of the type of things featured on the front cover.
